In St Louis GNS, we value physical education as an integral component of our school and necessary in the development of all our pupils. We aim to aid the children in achieving their true potential in PE. We hope to give all pupils an opportunity to succeed regardless of ability, emphasising the participation, cooperation and enjoyment aspects of the programme. We envisage that it will be fun and will be enjoyed by all the members of the school community.

P.E. is a vital part of our curriculum here in St. Louis G.N.S. and with the assistance of external coaches we offer a wide and varied Physical Education programme to all our pupils.

Physical education, as an integral part of the total curriculum, provides vital opportunities for the physical, social, emotional and intellectual development of the child. The curriculum is divided into six strands: • Athletics • Dance • Gymnastics • Games • Outdoor and adventure activities • Aquatics.

The children receive 1 hour of timetabled PE every week and specialist coaching is provided in the following:

Swimming

All classes receive a 6 week course of swimming lessons.

Gaelic

All classes take part in the Monaghan Schools’ GAA Coaching Programme which runs throughout the year.

Creative Dance

6th classes receive Creative Dance Lessons from January to March

Irish Dancing

Classes from 2nd to 6th have weekly Irish Dancing Lessons from September to March.

Tennis

During the summer term classes from 3rd to 6th take part in Tennis lessons.

 

The girls at St Louis are involved in many competitive and non-competitive activities and events throughout the year.
