Catholic Schools' Week ran from 30th January to 3rd February. Each day two girls from the various year groups read the thought for the day over the intercom and the classes engaged in various activities based on this year's theme: "Taking care of our common home." On Wednesday,1st February, Miss McNally's 3rd class prepared a beautiful assembly for the whole school which included a prayer service and a drama on the life of St. Brigid, while Mrs Treanor's class made St. Brigid's crosses. Mrs Cunningham's class attended mass in St. Joseph's on Thursday and sang a hymn for the congregation. Finally, on Friday, the feast of St. Blaise, Fr. Stephen Duffy visited the school and blessed the throats of the teachers and pupils.

In what proved to be a very close encounter, with a high standard of speaking on both teams, St. Louis eventually emerged the winner. The girls are now through to the second round of the competition.

Congratulations to debaters Eve, Kellie and Jessica,to the chairperson, Aoife and to researchers, Rhiain and Neeha.

Congratulations to Juste, one of our 6th class pupils, who is the new Under 13 Singles Handball Champion in Co. Monaghan! In a reversal of last year's result, Juste emerged as the winner in a tightly-fought tie-breaker against her Harps' club mate, Karolina, in Truagh on 21st December. Juste's victory means that she will now represent her county in the Ulster Championships to be held at the end of January. Juste will also be taking part in a Gael Linn Mixed Competition in Truagh this weekend. We wish her the very best of luck in all her forthcoming matches! |
