National Bike Week 2017 took place from 10th to 18th June. On Friday 16th, Gabriel Bell of Emyvale Cycling Club delivered a talk on Bike Safety to our two sixth classes. Afterwards, Gabriel and Miss O'Reilly took a group of nine girls for a cycle down the Greenway. On their return, the girls each received a sports bag and bottle of water. We are grateful to Monaghan Sports Partnership for offering this activity to our pupils.

The Athletics Team won the shield at the County Primary Schools' Track and Field Competition for the best school in the Girls' Large Schools' category. The team members are Caragh, Katie, Julija, Ava, Daisy, Niamh, Jeanette, Ernesta, Aoife, Shindara, Laoise, Klara, Samanta, Jessica and Nicole. This event took place on Monday 12th June at the Peace Link Athletics Grounds in Clones. Their victory was a just reward for the great effort the girls made in preparation for this competition under the expert guidance of their two coaches, Mrs Hannon and Miss Brady. Well done, girls!

Throughout the month of May Mrs Hannon ran a Handball Competition for all our classes. She invited Martin McEntee of Monaghan Harps to come to the school on Wednesday 7th June to referee the final in each class. The whole school gathered to watch the nine matches, some of which had really nail-biting finishes. The nine winners and runners-up were presented with prizes by Martin.

2nd Class: Ava & Julija
3rd Class: Rhianna & Ernesta
4th Class: Noor & Niamh
5th Class: Mia & Nimisha
6th Class: Caitlin & Jessica

On Friday, 2nd June, Mrs Healy and some of the junior members of the Action Team Partnership Committee undertook the task of replanting the flower pots at the entrance of the school. They busied themselves weeding, planting and sweeping in an effort to brighten up the entrance and make the school a more welcoming place thanks to Ms. Mullen for purchasing the flowers and to Stephen for putting up the hanging baskets.

Four of our 5th class girls: Victoria, Aoife, Neeharika and Rhiain were chosen to represent the school at the joint Launch of the Ulster Canal Greenway and the Launch of Bikeweek 2017. The event took place on Friday, 2nd June at the Monument across from Grahams. Mrs Hannon accompanied the girls on a cycle along the Greenway as far as the monument, where they had their photograph taken for the Northern Standard and received goody bags from Monaghan Sports Partnership.

On Monday 15th May Ms Deery's 5th class took part in a Fashion Upcycling workshop delivered by Monaghan County Council and Carrie Ann Moran from Rediscover Fashion. The workshop highlighted the impact of fashion waste on our environment. The girls transformed old clothing into stylish pieces by cutting, sewing and glueing. They also created accessories such as bags, bracelets, phone covers and chokers. Everyone showed great creativity and thoroughly enjoyed the workshop. Three of the girls: Jagoda, Aoife and Alannah won prizes for their creations. They were presented with gift vouchers by Niall O'Connor of Monaghan County Council on Friday 2nd. June.
