Charity Halloween Dress-Up Day

CharityDressUp 2017

Pictured above are the two youngest members of our Student Council, Siomha and Alisija, making a presentation of a cheque for €450 to Collette Mc Entee, Fundraising Executive with the National Council for the Blind, Ireland. Also in the picture are representatives from each of the other classes in the school. All our pupils dressed up on the day of the Halloween holidays and brought in money to make a contribution to this very deserving charity. It was a fun-filled day for all with witches, princesses and dead brides galore, to mention but a few of the marvellous costumes on display. The girls took part in Halloween-themed activities in their classrooms during the morning and gathered in the hall in the afternoon to present Collette. Thanks to Fausta and Toma, 6th class, who designed posters to advertise the day.

Launch of Tradoodle

St. Louis Infant School hosted the launch of Monaghan's first ever Arts Festival for Children on Friday, 20th October. Mrs Carmel Mc Carroll, Principal, welcomed all the invited guests, including the Artistic Director of the festival, Mr Thomas Johnston and guest of honour, Minister Heather Humphreys. Mrs Mc Carville's Senior Infant class performed a song specially taught to them by Thomas, while Mrs Cunningham's 4th class sang a medley of traditional numbers, accompanied on guitar by their teacher. Tradoodle is running this week from 24th to 28th of October and we wish it every success in its maiden year. Many thanks to the staff of St. Louis Infants' School for kindly inviting a class of our girls to take part in this very special event.

Representatives from Monaghan County Council and the Road Safety Authority came to the school on Tuesday 10th October to present Emma with a goodie bag that contained lots of lovely prizes, including a One for All Voucher. Every girl in Emma's class also received an arm reflector to keep them safe while cycling or walking. Well done, Emma!

Walk the Beat

Beat-1

During the first week of October, some of our classes visited the museum to see an exhibition called "The Watchmen." They learned about policing, crime and punishment in Monaghan. They discovered that long ago, if children misbehaved, they were sent away on a boat without their families! Children were not allowed to write using their left hand and if they did so, they got hit with a cane. The girls got their headshots taken in prisoners' uniforms and also saw lots of police uniforms and weapons.
