Since being awarded our first flag in May 2010, the Green Schools’ Committee have expanded our comprehensive Litter & Waste Management programme to focus on Energy Management, which is required for the first renewal of the Green Flag.

A new Green Schools’ Committee was elected with representatives from each class who work together in order to achieve the Green Flag for Energy Management.

The Committee meets regularly to ensure that we maintain our efforts in the area of Litter & Waste Management and to work on the new Energy programme.

The Green School Committee carried out an extensive review of Energy Usage in our school. Using this review the Committee identified actions that could be undertaken to conserve energy in our school. These actions form the basis for our Action Plan for Energy Awareness & Energy Management in our school.

Some classes attended Energy Workshops, organised by Niall O’Connor, Monaghan Co. Council Environmental Officer in conjunction with Sustainable Energy Ireland.

The Green School Committee have involved the entire school community in activities and curricular work relating to the theme of energy, as well as encouraging everyone to cut down on energy consumption throughout our school.
